What is anxiety

A

Is a natural and useful relates to fight, flight or freeze. It is unpleasant feeling so we take notice. Response in body and mind.
An anxiety disorder lasts longer than normal anxiety and can go undiagnosed

Treatments of anxiety

A

CBT
antidepressants with CBT
Self help strategies
Reduce stimulants - caffeine, nicotine
Refer IAPT services (improved access to psychological therapies)
For PTSD some pt benefited from EDMR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing)

What is psychosis

A

Symptom not a condition
Is a condition that affects a persons mind, causing changes to the way they think, feel and behave. It affects a persons perception of reality making it difficult to distinguish what is real and what is imagination.
Often accompanied by hallucinations and delusions

A

Ongoing mental illness - bipolar, depression, schizophrenia
Traumatic experience - stress
Conditions - Parkinson’s, brain tumour, dementia
Drug and alcohol misuse
Noncompliance with medication

2 symptoms with psychosis

A

Delusions - where a person believes things that, when examined rationally are untrue
Hallucinations- where a person hears, sees and in some cases feels, smells or tastes things that aren’t there. May experience paranoia and be scared
