Neurotransmitters: dopamine excess
Think: abnormal beliefs, delusions
Act: isolate, disorganized, flat faced
PRODROME: beginning stages
Go downhill, school work suffers, delusions, act differently
Depression
Abnormalities in limbic system, hypothalamus, neuroplasticity is affected
Anxiety disorders
General anxiety disorder, Panic attacks, phobias, OCD- interferes with daily life, PTSD- trigger
Dissociative identity disorder
Distinct identities: mannerisms, physical changes, denial

Role playing
Somatic symptom disorder
Mental disorder—>physical symptom
any symptom may or may not be medically explainable
Excessive worrying

Mental disorder—>physical symptom
neurological symptom cannot explain symptoms
Speech, swallowing, etc.

Facticious disorder
Patient wants to be sick. Lie about being sick
Not for money, they legit just want to be in the sick role
Personality disorders
10 types
A: odd, eccentric (paranoid, schizoid-emotionally detached, schizotypal- magical thinking)
B: dramatic, emotional (antisocial, borderline, histrionic-attention seeking)
C: anxious, fearful (avoidant, dependent,obsessive compulsive, PERSONALITY- orderliness, control
OCD vs Obsessive compulsive personality disorder
OCD- you are obsessed with washing your hands etc
OCPD- you are focused on being orderly, in control, affection
Substance use disorder
Affecting work, school, drugs improve them
Parkinson’s disease
Substantia nigra (region of brain) is not as dark
Lewy bodies form

Bipolar disorder

Periods of depression, then periods of mania
Bipolar 1: full mania
Bipolar 2: not full mania, hypomania

High self esteem, optimism, poor decisions without consequences (spending too much, risky behaviors)
