What does LH do?
Release the egg from the ovaries
Where is FSH and LH made?
Pituitary gland
How does an anti pregnancy pill work?
It uses two hormones: oestrogen and progesterone which inhibits the other two FSH and LH so there is no chance of pregnancy
What happens to estrogen when FSH is released
Estrogen levels rise which inhibits FSH so less estrogen is made
Where is oestrogen and progesterone created?
Ovaries
When (on average) is the egg released from the ovary?
Day 14
What happens to levels of progesterone and oestrogens when the mature egg is released
They rise
What happens to the levels of FSH and LH when an egg is released
They lower
What happens if the egg is not fertilised by day 28?
FSH and LH levels rise and progesterone decreases and period begins and carries on until next month
When does the lining of the womb start thickening (average)
Day 5-14
Why are FSH and LH released?
To choose and release an egg before estrogen is released which inhibits both the previous hormones
What happens on day 1 of the cycle?
The old egg from the previous cycle is released
Why is uterus lining built up during every cycle
To make up for the lining lost during the menstrual period in the last cycle
