How can you reduce spread of infectious diseases
-Simple hygiene (wash hands)
-Destroy vectors
-Isolate affected individuals to prevent them spreading
-giving people at risk vaccines
What is a viral pathogen
A disease that reproduces rapidly in body cells and damages cells
What are some symptoms of measles
Fever and red rash
How is measles spread
Breathing droplets from sneezes and coughs of an infected person
Danger of measles?
Most recover well but it can be fatal to young children so they are usually vaccinated
What is HIV (Acronym)
Human Imunodeficiency Disease
What does HIV do?
It weakens your immune system making you more vulnerable to other illnesses or cancers
Symptoms of HIV
Flu like in early stages
What is AIDS
Late stage HIV, when you get a r body’s immune system is damaged and cannot fight off diseases or cancers
How is HIV spread
Sexual contact
What happens if HIV is untreated
The virus enters lymph nodes and attacks the body’s immune cells
What do bacterial diseases do?
Damage cells directly or produce toxins that damage tisdue
What is salmonella
A type of food poisoning caused by bacteria in uncooked meat
How does salmonella affect you
It causes fever, abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea
How is gonorrhoea spread?
Sexual contact
What are the symptoms of gonorrhoea?
Thick yellow/green discharge from the penis or vagina and pain when urinating
How is gonorrhoea treated
Penicillin
How do you prevent gonorrhoea
Barrier methods (condoms)
What is Rose black spot
A fungal disease that forms black or purple spots in leaves and make leaves fall off
How is rose black spot spread
Wind or water spreads the fungi spores plant to plant
How is rose black spot treated
Fungicides and or removing the affected leaves to prevent the spread
