Meniscus Flashcards
1
Q
Describe where they are and the 2 types
& ligaments Surrounding them
A
Between of femoral condyle and tibial plateau
Medial C shaped and lateral O shaped
Held to femur by lig of wristberg and Humphrey
Held to tib plateau by ant and lost horn
Attached together by transverse lig
Medial attached to joint capsule- less mobile, easy damage
2
Q
Describe vascularisation of meniscus sections (3)
A
Red red outer section fully vascularised
Red white between has traits of both
White white inner section is a vascular- poor healing etc
3
Q
Mechanism of tears
A
Flexion and rotation under compression
4
Q
Meniscus tear classifications (5)
A
- vertical longitudinal- can be asymptomatic, no flaps
- vertical radial - cause knee locking, flaps
- horizontal -mechanically stable, split into upper and lower
- oblique- flaps get caught and lock
- complex- multiple tears
5
Q
Treatment (1)
A
Resection Surgery if flaps cause locking
Conservative method preferred
