Fever
Nuchal rigidity
Change in mental status
What is associated with neisseria meninitidis
Rash

Cerebral function usually remains normal

Encephalitis
Lumbar puncture test should be delayed if the following occur
Intracranial pressure
Papilledema
Focal neurological deficit
Abnormal level of consciousness
Drug of choice
Ceftriaxone ( rocephin)
2g IV q12hr
Drug used to decrease acute inflammation
Dexamethasone
0.15mg/kg IV q6hr
If aseptic meningitis due to GSV I’d suspected, empiric therapy with
Acyclovir IV
Prophylaxis treatment
Exposed crew
Ciprofloxacin
500 mg PO
