Meninges/layers covering brain &v surface structures of brain Flashcards
Dura Matter:
Tough, opaque outer layer covering the brain & spinal cord
outermost/1st CT layer
Arochnoid Matter:
2nd layer/middle layer of CT covering brain/spinal cord
Pia Matter:
3rd layer/inner most CT covering brain/spinal cord
thin,clear layer
Cerebrum:
front/anterior portion of brain
largest/most prominent strucutre of brain
uppermost region of CNS
Contains hippocampus, olfactory bulb, basal ganglia
2 cerebrum hemispheres L & R cerebrum hemispheres
Longitudinal Fissure:
seperates L & R cerebrum hemispheres
Frontal Lobe:
anterior end of cerebrum
Parietal Lobe:
posterior to the frontal lobe
Temporal Lobe:
along lateral aspect of EACH hemisphere
Occipital lobe:
posterior tip of cerebrum
Insula Lobe:
is a portion of the cerebral cortex folded deep within the lateral sulcus (the fissure separating the temporal lobe from the parietal and frontal lobes).
Cerebellum:
posterior to the cerebrum
seperated from the cerebrum by the “transverse fissure”
divided into 2 cerebellar hemispheres
