Eyes: Flashcards
Eyes:
visual sense organs within bony orbits of the skull
supplied by the OPTIC nerve
Eye Outer layer:
CORNEA-controls an d focuses light into eyes
SCALERA: opaque membrane(white of eyes) protects/supports eyeballs
Eye Middle layer:
CHOROID:thin layer of tissue that cotains blood vessels for oxygen/nutrients for eyes
melanin prvents light waves from reflecting back out of eyes
Eye Innerlayer:
RETINA
IRIS
PUPIL
Retina:
receive light that the eyes lens has focused
convert the light into neural signals
send these signals on to the brain for visual recognition.
Iris:
controls the diameter of the pupil, reponsible for eye color (pigment cells)
Pupil:
anterior opening, allows light in
Eye lense:
hangs from the siallary muscle
to change the angle to RETRACT light
bends/refracts light & focuses light on retina
Anterior chamber:
aquaious humor with watery fluid b/w the cornea & iris
Posteior chamber:
vitrous humor b/w iris & eye lense
holds the retina against the choroid
Rods:
to see during low-light conditions
peripheral vision
photoreceptor cells
Cones:
visual acuity
viewing objects in sharp focus & color vision
how do you see?
light contacts the retina
bipolar cells
reaches the rods/cones in the photo-receptor cell layer
