Brainstem Parts Flashcards
Mesencephalon/Midbrain:
Where the carpora quadrigemina are located
is a portion of the central nervous system associated with vision, hearing, motor control, sleep/wake, arousal (alertness), and temperature regulation.
Pons:
an elevated mass of tissue on the ventral surface
part of brainstem that links the medulla oblongata and the thalamus.
Medulla Oblogata:
column of tissue that extends posterior from the pons t& is continous w/ the spinal cord
the continuation of the spinal cord within the skull, forming the lowest part of the brainstem and containing control centers for the heart and lungs.
Brainstem:
posterior region hidden in the phalemic region
consisting of the medulla oblongata, pons, and midbrain, and continuing downward to form the spinal cord.
Cerebral Penducles:
stocks of growth of tissue that connects the cerebrum & midbrain
Cereuncles:
stocks of growth connects the cerebellum & midbrain
