4 Types of Neurons Flashcards
Multipolar Cells:
structure: MANY cell processes, ONE axon, MULTI dendrites
Function:motor neurons for voluntry/involuntarymovement
interneurons form fiber tract tat links b/w brian & spinal cord regions
Multipolar Cells Locations:
cerebral cortex
cerebellar cortex
gray matter in spinal cord
Bipolar Cells:
Structure: 2 cell processes, one axon, one dendrite
Function:sensroy neurons for vision, hearling, balance, smell
Bipolar Cells Locations:
retina of eyes
inner ear
olfactory epithelium in nasal cavity
Unipolar Cells:
Structure: one cell processes that divides into 2 branches
BOTH branches are axons
The receptive endings of peripheral branch re dendrites
Unipolar Cells Functions:
Sensory neurons for general: touch. temperature, pain,
Unipolar Cells Locations:
sensory ganglia for spinal nerves
most cranial nerve ganglia
Anaxonic Cells:
Many cell processes, ALL are dendrites
Function: unknown
Locations: various regions of the brain
Afferent:
signals travel from neurons of the body to the CNS
Efferent:
Exits the CNS to go to neurons of body
Neurolia/Glial Cells:
Perform a variety of functions
that protect/support neurons & other structures
small bodies & cytoplasmic processes extend from
Found in CNS & PNS
