What is Short Term Memory (STM)
This is the capacity holding a small amount of information that is a available for a short period of time. (20-30) seconds.
What is Baddeley’s Working Memory
This is a small amount of information that is held to allow you perform different cognitive tasks.
What are the Limits to Working Memories
- Distraction
- Trying to hold in mind too much information
- Engaging in a demanding task could cause loss of other information
What is Memory Span
This is the amount of information that individual can remember and repeat back using the short term memory.

It is 7 ± 2
What is Long Term Memory (LTM)
The capacity or storage to hold information for an extended period of time.
What is Procedural Memory
This is what unconsciously tells you how to preform different tasks.
What is Implicit “Unconscious” Memory
This is information that you remember effortlessly and unconsciously.
What is Automatic Processing
This the encoding of things like time, meaning of words, and space, this is done unconsciously, it is automatic.
What is Explicit “Conscious” Memory
This is information you have to consciously work to remember. Declarative memory.
What is Effortful Processing
When you purposely try to remember, encoding that requires attention and conscious effort.

What is Semantic Memory “facts”
These are your facts, names, concepts, and other general knowledge. You use this memory when you take a test.
What is Episodic Memory “events”
This is a long term memory the involves the recollection of specific events, experiences and situations.
What is Autobiographical Memory
This involves memories of your own personal life, This memory and episodic memory play a role in self identity.
