Memory Model (Baddeley And Hitch) Flashcards
What are the 4 systems in the memory model?
Central executive
Phonological loop
Visuospatial sketchpad
Episodic buffer
What is the role of the central executive?
The control centre of the working memory model
Selects which info should be sent to each 3 subsystems
E.g. ignore shout from crowd, listen to coach
Selective attention is used here to filter out irrelevant info, prevents information overload
What is the role of the phonological loop?
Deals with auditory information
Processes calls from teammates or coach
What is the role of the visuospatial sketchpad?
Stores visual and spatial information
Analyses positions of where attackers/ defenders are
What is the role of the episodic buffer?
Sends sequences of info from phonological loop and visuospatial sketchpad to the long term memory
Triggers motor programme for correct response
How does the experience of a performer help in making a decision?
The more experienced a performer is, the more likely the performer is to make the correct decision
What must the performer have to perform the action consistently well?
A well learnt motor programme
