Memory Flashcards
What is encoding?
It is the process of information entering our brain. Then its labeled and coded.
What is automatic processing?
Its when we remember information unconsciously.
What is effortful processing?
When we need to put effort to remember Information
What are the 3 types of encoding?
Semantic encoding- Words and meanings
Visual encoding- Images
Acoustic encoding- Sounds of words
What is storage?
Its the process of getting the information and storing it somewhere. Before storage the information passes through sensory memory, short term memory and then to long term memory.
What is rehearsal?
Its what makes short term memory to long term memory
Whats memory trace decay?
Its a theory that suggests that memory goes away throughout time.
What is memory interference?
Its when old information black new information from encoding.
What is elaborative rehearsal?
Its when we keep an information on a specific place for us to go back and find it.
What is implicit in long term memory?
It is memory that we remember unconsciously and that is learned outside our awareness.
What is explicit in long term memory?
Its information we need to try to remember to use it. And it can be put into words.
What it procedural memory?
Its where we store the information we learn unconscious (Implicit).
What is implicit primary?
Its when a stimuli helps us remember what we are looking for.
What is implicit emotional?
Its when a stimuli connects and remember emotions.
What is retrieval?
Its the process of getting back the information of our brain to use it.
