Membranes Flashcards
What are the three categories of membranes
Mucous membranes synovial membranes and serous membranes
List the layers of skin (cutaneous membrane)
The epidermis stratified squamous epithelial tissue, the dermis dense irregular connective tissue, the underlying tissue loose connective tissue
What is the mucous membrane and what does it do
The mucus membrane lines tubes that open to the outside of the body and traps particles in the respiratory tract.
What is the Serous membrane
It lubricates organs and forms thin double layers around organs. It secretes small amount of lubricating fluid between layers. Found your own heart lungs and abdominal organs
What is the synovial membrane
It is found around the movable joints and used for lubricating. Hyaline cartilage is lubricated with synovial fluid. Synovial fluid is secreted by synovial membrane which forms a little sack around the sides of joints
