Connective Tissue Flashcards
In general what does connective tissue do
Connective tissue forms your infrastructure that holds you up, binds tissue together, and insulates
What is the extracellular Matrix
The chemical substances located between connective tissue cells
What is the ground substance
The chemical mixture that is found in The extracellular Matrix
What is connective tissue classified by
Is classified based on what the extra cellular matrix is like
What are the four basic types of connective tissue
Connective tissue proper, cartilage, bone, and blood
What are the four types of connective tissue proper
Loose connective tissue, adipose tissue, dense irregular connective tissue, and dense regular connective tissue.
What is collagen
A thread like protein fiber that helps hold connective tissue together
What are fibroblasts
Spindle shape cells that form connective tissue proper
What is a fibrocyte
A fibroblast that is completely surrounded by The Matrix
Describe loose connective tissue
It’s job is light duty binding. It holds things together in all directions but very lightly.
Describe dense irregular connective tissue
It is found in the dermis of the skin and it has many collagen fibers that are oriented in all directions for stretch all directions. Also found in capsules around organs.
Describe dance regular connective tissue
Collagen fibers mostly go in the same direction. There are fibroblasts but no elastic protein fibers. Tensile strength , strength found in tendons and ligaments.
Describe adipose tissue
Cells are adipocytes/fat cells. Provides support protection and insulation. It is found under the skin, supports the kidney, and the fat cells store energy
