MEMBRANE TRANSPORTATION - Definitions Flashcards
Cytosol
Inner part of the cell
Interstitial Fluid
Outer part of the cell
Passive Transport
- Requires only heat energy
- Includes simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion and osmosis
Diffusion
Movement of a substance from areas of high concentration to low concentration (Occurs down concentration gradient)
Concentration Gradient
Difference in concentration between two areas
Cellular Diffusion
Solute (dissolved substance) occurs cross cell membrane to areas of high concentration to low concentration
Simple diffusion
Small non polar solutes
Facilitated diffusion
- Small charged or polar solutes
- Channel mediated and carrier mediated (difference is the type of protein used)
Osmosis
Passive movement of water through a selectively permeable membrane
Active Processes
Require cellular energy
Active Transport
Movement of solute against concentration gradient OR area of low concentration to high concentration
Vesicular Transport
Transport by vesicle
Primary Active transport
-
Secondary Active transport
-
Exocytosis
Movement of a vacuole put of the cell
