Mema first day Flashcards
a surgery that creates an opening in the abdomen, changing the way that waste exits your body
Ostomy
a small opening in the abdomen which is used to remove body waste, such as faeces and urine, into a collection bag.
Stoma
an opening in your belly’s wall that a surgeon makes in order for waste to leave your body if you can’t have a bowel movement through your rectum.
Stoma
This procedure creates an opening into your colon (large intestine) through your abdomen. This allows fecal waste to bypass a part of the colon that’s been damaged or diseased.
Colostomy
a person who has had an ostomy.
Ostomate
the opening is created into your small intestine through your abdomen.
Ileostomy
Certain lower bowel problems are treated by giving part of the bowel a rest. It’s kept empty by keeping stool from getting to that part of the bowel.
Temporary Colostomy
When part of the colon or the rectum becomes diseased, a long-term (permanent) colostomy must be made. The diseased part of the bowel is removed or permanently rested.
Permanent Colostomy
This type of colostomy allows the stool to leave the body before it reaches the descending colon
Transverse Colostomy
The _____________ may look like one very large stoma, but it has 2 openings. One opening puts out stool, the other only puts out mucus.
Loop Colostomy
a loop of colon is pulled out through a cut in your tummy.
Loop Colostomy
divides the colon into 2 ends that form separate stomas. Stool exits from one of the stomas. Mucus made by the colon exits from the other.
Double-Barrel Colostomy
a surgical procedure that creates an opening in your abdominal wall. This opening goes from an area inside your body to the outside, usually through your abdominal muscles and skin.
Ostomy
creates a new way for waste to leave your body.
Ostomy
often remove fecal waste (poop), though they can involve urine (pee) as well.
