What were the treatments in the Middle Ages?
Herbal medicines, bleeding, urine testing to diagnose and then give a treatment, zodiac charts and visiting barber surgeons.
What were the treatments in the Early Modern era?
Ladies of the manor books, English books, eating foods like that part of the body, new foods and scientific approaches like recording results.
What surgical treatments were there in the Modern era?
In 1847 chloroform was used to reduce pain in birth and Queen Victoria used it which increased popularity. Also local anaesthetic was discovered,
What developments were made in antiseptic and aseptic surgery?
Semmelweis reduced death rates to less than 1% by making doctors wash their hands. Joseph Lister used Carbolic acid to kill germs and sterelise operating rooms. Halstead started the idea of wearing gloves.
What new types of surgery were there?
In 1952 there was the first kidney transplant and in 1967 there was the first heart transplant. Marie Curie used radiotherapy to target cancer cells and this lead to chemotherapy.
What antibiotics were discovered?
Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin and Florey and Chain researched and experimented. It was used during war and later led to more antibiotics being discovered.
