Poverty and famine meant that family didn’t have the money to buy food with nutrients to keep them healthy. Warfare caused disease as soldiers spread diseases across the country and took food from villages. lack of hygiene

What did medieval people believe caused disease?

A

They believed that God sent disease as a punishment for sins and that supernatural spirits caused unusual things. They believed that imbalances in the four humours led to illness and they found links between smells and disease. They also believed that it was just part of everyday life.

A

The same as in the Medieval as nothing really changed. Houses were crowded, although not as badly as before as the great fire of london presuaded people to leave gaps. Homes were dark and smoky. Water was taken from rivers with waste in.

A

There were outbreaks of Cholera in 1831-1832, 1848 and 1854. It was caused by eating contaminated food or water. There were also outbreaks of Typhoid was caused by contaminated food, water or faeces.

A

The Spanish flu was a bacteria that was spread at the end of WW1 as soldiers returned and in the UK 280 thousand (20-40 Million in the world) people died from it. AIDS is a immune deficiency syndrome and it was estimated 40million had died from AIDS, which caused by unprotected sex, sharing needles, contaminated blood transfusions and from mother to child.

A

A

Houses and towns were crowded together so diseases spread quickly. Water was drunk from rivers where there were faeces and animal carcasses. Homes were smoky and dark and animals would roam the streets, creating lots of dung.

A

It was a bubonic plague that spread in 1348 as whole villages were wiped out. It is believed that it was spread by fleas on rats and killed 1/3 of the population if the UK.

A

In 1604 30% of the population had dies and in 1665 100,000 died in London. They believes that Bad smells and God being angry caused disease. They had a bit of an idea that you caught it from each other but didn’t understand how or why.
