Alprazolam Class/ Treatment
Class: Benzo
Treatment: anxiety disorders and panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks).
Other medications: Lorazepam

What should you do as a nurse for a patient on Benzo’s?
Check O2, Respirations, level of consciousness
Buspirone
- Treat Anxiety
- Not addictive
- Takes 2 -4 weeks to work
Things we need to know about Busiprone
- Cause Dizziness/ light headed and headaches
- Nausea and constipation
- Increase suicidal thoughts
Buspirone class:
Nonbarbiturate anxiolytic
Patient teaching for Buspirone:
Increase fiber
Increase water and movement
Avoid St. John’s worts

- Treat anxiety

Complications from SSRI
- weight gain
- GI bleeding
-Hyponatremia - Withdraws ( don’t stop rapidly)
