Medical Eval of CAD (Exam 1) Flashcards
Red flag symptoms (5)
- chest pain
- HTN
- Rapid HR
- fatigue
- SOB
Non-invasive procedures (6)
- Resting ECG
- Holter monitoring
- Event recording (King of Hearts)
- GRX
- Echocardiogram
- Enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP)
Resting ECG
inexpensice, reliable baseline info
Holter monitoring
24 hr ECG
applied by tech
used in conjuncture with diary of events
King of Hearts (event recorder)
self applied
ECG over several weeks
Stress testing (GRX)
usually on treadmill
trying to induce symptoms
Echocardiogram
ultrasound for the heart- can show hypertrophy of left ventricle or heart structure damage
EECP
for when angina pts have tried all other RX and failed to improve.
done over svrl months; designed to decreased afterload and increase preload, increasing the body’s ability to keep up with demand
Invasive procedues (9)
- Radionuclide GRX
- Medical stress test
- cornoary catherization
- Percutaneous transluminal coronary angiogram
- Coronary artery bypass graft
- heart transplant
- Ventricular assist device
- pacemaker
- AICD- automatic implantable cardiovarting defibrillation
Radionuclide GRX
Uses radioactive tracer & resting/stress images to find blockages/lack of blood flow
Why do invasive procedures
non-invasive inconclusive OR strong likelihood significant disease was pinpointed
medical stress test
for those unable to do physical stress; undergo chem stress (vasodialator)
cardiac catherization
identify size/location of fat/calcium deposits
Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary angiogram (PTCA)
opens blocked coronary arteries via catheter.
Atherectomy
Angioplasty
Atherecotmy
tiny blades on balloon to remove plaque; minimally invasive blockages
