What 3 things are required for BLS to administer Oral glucose?
- Patient greater than 8 years old with a blood glucose level less than 70 mg/dl
- displays signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia
- Is conscious enough to swallow and can maintain their own airway
What is the dose all providers can give for oral glucose?
24-50 gm SL or 1 single dose tube
What are the signs and symptoms of a narcotic (opiate) overdose?
- respiratory arrest or insufficient ventilation
- Pinpoint pupils
- GCS less than 13
What is the does of Narcan that BLS providers can administer?
2 mg IN only, may repeat twice at same dose
After successful treatment of hypoglycemia, when may the patient refuse further treatment or transport?
- Pt. must be on injectable therapy and not oral therapy for refusal
- Pt. is at least 18 years old with a GCS of 15
- After repeat assessment, blood sugar level is with in an acceptable range
- no signs and symptoms of illness
- patient must be observed to eat without vomiting and can be supervised by a responsible adult
- pt. must not be driving a vehicle or operating machinery.
What are the adult and pediatric doses of Epi Auto-Injector?
Epi 1:1,000
Adult: 0.3 mg IM via Auvi-Q
Ped (less than 3 years old): 0.15 mg IM via Auvi-Q
What is the Pre-Hospital Stroke Screen?
F - Facial weakness or droop on left or right side
A - Arm or leg weakness (drifts or falls)
S - Speech slurred or impaired
T - Time at baseline or symptom-free and awake
What is the blood pressure for patients experiencing an isolated hypertensive emergency?
Systolic - greater than or equal to 220
Diastolic - greater than or equal to 120
