Hypoglycemia
MINIMAL SUGAR IN BLOOD (diabetes)
Sign: hunger, double vision, fast breathing/pulse, dizzy, drowsy, confused
Care: give sugar (candy, juice)
Hyperglycemia
SUGAR IN BLOOD BUT CAN’T GET TO CELLS
Sign: fruity breath, frequent pee, thirst, fast breathing/pulse, dizzy, drowsy, confused
Care: EMS, can give sugar but will have no improvement
Epilepsy
RECURRING UNPROVOKED SEIZURES
Sign: seizing
Care: move objects, no restraint, recovery position, time seizure and call EMS +5mins
Asthma
AIRWAY INFLAMMATION - CAN’T BREATHE
Sign: recurrent wheezing, breathless, tight chest, dry cough
Care: use puffer, ideal breathing position, slow exhale
Exercise Induced Bronchospasm
TEMPORARY NARROW AIRWAY BY EXERCISE - CANT BREATHE
Sign: short breath, coughing, chest tight, wheezing, specifically for those with diagnosis
Care: educate athlete, puffer, breathing position, slow exhale
Exertional Heat Stroke
Sign: +40 deg, unconscious/decreased mental status, no sweat, hot/dry skin, nausea
Care: cool then transport, remove gear, rehydration
Exertional Heat Exhaustion
Sign: -40 deg, conscious, heavy sweating, pale/moist/cool skin
Care: fluids, rest, cooling, rehydration, if no improvement then emergency
