RIB BRUISING
Sign: localized pain during breathing or palpation, bruising
Rib Fracture
FRACTURED RIB
Sign: pain with coughing/breathing in/trunk movement, visible contusion, palpable crepitus, leaning toward injured side
Intercostal Muscle Strain
MUSCLE STRAIN BETWEEN RIBS
Sign: pain on area/with breathing/movement, + STTT
Care: refer imaging, stabilize, pad for return to play
Pneumothorax
PARTIAL COLLAPSED LUNG
Sign: difficulty breathing, short breath
Care: immediate referral
Tension Pneumothorax
COMPLETE COLLAPSED LUNG
Sign: displaced lung/heart/trachea, difficulty breathing
Care: immediate referral
Hemothorax
BLOOD IN PLEURAL CAVITY
Sign: difficulty breathing, coughing blood
Care: immediate referral
Commotio Cordis
SUDDEN DEATH BY CHEST IMPACT WITHOUT CARDIAC DAMAGE
Sign: blow to chest, cardiac arrest
Care: immediate defibrillation, emergency
Abdominal Wall Contusion
STRAINED ABDOMINAL WALL MUSCLE
Sign: tenderness, pain with contraction, no referred pain
Care: cold pack, compression
Abdominal Muscle Strain
STRAINED AB MUSCLE (long muscle)
Sign: localized pain, spasm at site, +manual muscle test
Care: cold, compression
Solar (Celiac) Plexus Contusion
WIND KNOCKED OUT OF YOU
Sign: trouble breathing, bending over
Care: clear airway, knees to chest, slow expiration & short inspiration
Spleen Injury
INJURED SPLEEN
Sign: left shoulder pain following blunt trauma
Care: refer medical
Liver Injury
INJURED LIVER
Sign: right shoulder/scapula pain, nausea/vomiting, possible bruising/laceration
Care: refer medical
Kidney Injury
INJURED KIDNEY
Sign: pain, tenderness, ecchymosis, bloody urine
Care: refer medical
Bladder Injury
INJURED BLADDER
Sign: tenderness, ecchymosis, bloody urine
Care: refer medical
