Hand Nerve Pathologies: DR. CUMAB
DR = Radial Nerve damage –> Drop Wrist
CU = Ulnar Nerve damage –> Claw Hand
MAB = Median Nerve Damage –> Ape Hand, Benediction Hand
median sensory
palmar: middle
dorsal: fingertips
carpal tunnel contents
9 tendons + median nerve
flexor tendons:
flex digit 4 superficial + 4 deep
flex pollicis longus
carpal tunnel syndrome
c: idiopathic, thickened ligament/tendon sheath
wasted thenar muscles
numbness, tingling, pain, waking from sleep, worse in morning
Tinel (tapping), Phalen (praying)
splint dorsiflexion overnight, corticosteroid injection, surgical decompression
no ape / benediction hand (not complete palsy)
above elbow
c: supracondylar humerus fracture weak flexion + pronation of forearm wasted thenar hand of benediction when trying to fist ape hand at rest (can't oppose thumb so can't make ok sign --> pinch grip, can't move thumb away from hand)
at elbow
pronator teres syndrome
forearm injury
anterior interosseous syndrome
c: tight cast, fracture
