Medial Thigh Flashcards
What are the six muscles of the medial compartment of the thigh? What is the blood supply to these muscles?
Gracilis, pectineus, adductor longus, adductor brevis, adductor magnus, obturator externus. Both the obturator and deep femoral arteries.
What is unique about the pectineus muscle?
It is the only medial compartment muscle that is NOT innervated by the obturator nerve. Instead it is innervated by the FEMORAL NERVE.
What are the functions of the medial compartment muscles?
Adduct and medially rotate
What is unique about the gracilis?
It crosses two joints, therefore, it can flex the leg AND adduct the thigh
What is the innervation of adductor magnus muscle?
Tibial nerve
What are the unique actions of the obturator externus?
It is a lateral rotator of the thigh– holds head of femur into place in the acetabulum
