Q

what is the action of the tibialis anterior muscle?

A

dorsiflexion and inversion of the foot because the tendon is on the medial side– a smidge higher than tom dick and harry

16
Q

what is foot drop?

A

loss of dorsiflexion and eversion. it is therefore difficult to achieve heel strike. pt will have a high stepping gait, waddling gait, or swing out gait. if leg swung strongly forward, the foot strikes with a “clop”

17
Q

why is bleeding inside compartment of the artery a potentially very bad problem? aka- what is compartment syndrome?

A

because you can tear off some branches of the posterior tibial artery–> get pretty significant bleeding into the posterior compartment –> get bad swelling –> bad bc the compartments are SO compartmentalized–> the bleeding begins to cut off the additional bf to leg–> leg can go ischemic–> have to do a fasciotomy –> literally open wound to let a swelling eventually go down
