Medial Thigh Flashcards
what is the common action of the medial compartment of the thigh
ADduction of the thigh, at the hip, thus aiding stability of the hip joint
name the muscles of the medial compartment, from anterior to posterior
(GP’s Love Bloody Mary’s) or (3 ducks peck grass)
1. gracilis
2. pectineusd
3. aDuctor longus
4. aDductor longus
5. aDductor magnus
(+/- obturator externus, will be feastured in gluteal region)
gracilis:
origin
insertion
action
innervation
- origin: body of pubis
- insertion: upper, medial surface of tibia, posterior to sartorius
- action: hip ADduction, knee flexion, medial rotation of the leg
- innervation: obturator L2, L3
pectineus
origin
insertion
action
innervation
- origin: pectineal surface of the superior ramus of pubis
- insertion: between lesser trochanter and the linea aspera
- action: aDducts the thigh at the hip
- innervation: femoral nerve, L2, L3, maybe some obturator
aDductor longus
origin
insertion
action
innervation
- origin: pubic crest
- insertion: linea aspera, middle 1/3 of femur
- action: aDduction of thigh
- innervation: obturator L2, L3, L4
ADductor brevis
origin
insertion
action
innervation
- origin: body and inferior ramus of pubis
- insertion: linea aspera, upper portion of femur
- action: ADduction of thigh
- innervation: obturator, L2, L3, L4
Adductor magnus
origin
insertion
action
innervation
- origin: ischiopubic ramus and ischial tuberosity
- insertion: ADductor portion- Posterior femur from gluteal tuberosity to medial supra condylar ridge
hamstring portion - ADductor tubercle - action: ADduction of thigh and extension of thigh at hip
- innervation ADD: obturator L3 and L4
Ham: sciatic, L4 and L5
what is the adductor canal
what are the borders
it is a channel that runs from the inferior apex of femoral triangle to the adductor hiatus
the borders are sartorius, aDductor longus and magnus, and vastus medialis and intermedius
what is the main nerve supply of the medial compartment of the thigh
(where do they originate)
obturator nerve L2, L3, L4
originate from the ventral branches of the lumbar plexus, splits into anterior and posterior division, sometimes with an accessory obturator
some muscle supply from femoral and sciatic nerve
which muscles does the anterior obturator nerve supply
- gracilis
- adductor brevis
- addutor longus
- (sometimes pectineus)
which muscles does the posterior obturator nerve supply
- adductor part of adductor magnus
- sometime adductor brevis
which muscle of the medial compartment of the thigh does the femoral nerve supply
pectineus
which muscle does the sciatic nerve supply in the medial compartment of the thigh
ham string part of aDductor magnus
what are the cutaneous (sensory) nerves of the medial compartment of the thigh (3)
- obturator nerve
- medial femoral cutaneous nerve (branch of the femoral nerve
- a little ilioinguinal
what are the problems associated with nerve lesions in the medial thigh (3)
- pain, parasthesia
- loss of sensation
- loss of aDduction of the thigh at the hip
