‘Bigger’ events = more likely to be nationally reported

Rare, unpredictable events e.g Micheal Jackson dying

Who has power over content ?
The debate - consumers, owners or journalists

You demand they supply or would not receive large audience
Neophilliac
Optimistic about new media, spread of influence of new media is beneficial for individuals and society

Believe the change has been exaggerated and is damaging

Cultural dominance through global advertising, spreading western culture elsewhere destroying / undermining local cultures
