What are airborne precautions?
Used for measles, SARS, varicella, TB used to prevention air transmission Rooms must be negative in pressure Rooms must exhaust to outside Must use personal respiratory protection
What is arthroplasty?
Reconstruction, reparation, or replacement of a joint
What is angina?
Chest pain
Can sometimes spread to shoulders, arm and neck
Caused by an inadequate blood supply to the heart
What is Atherosclerosis?
Hardening of an artery due to fatty buildup within the arterial wall
What is a carotid endarterectomy?
Surgery removing the inner lining of the coronary artery if it has become thickened or damaged
This helps to increase blood flow by getting rid of fatty build up
What are contact precautions?
Work practice to reduce transmitting infectious agents by either direct or indirect contact
Gown gloves and mask
What is deep vein thrombosis (DVT)?
A thrombus (clot) in a vein lying deep below the skin, especially in the legs
What are droplet precautions?
Involves coming in contact with mucous membranes of the nose and mouth
Droplets can travel three feet
Wear mask at three feet
What is an echocardiogram?
A test of the action of the heart using ultrasound to produce a visual display of the diagnosis
Can be used to monitor heart disease
Looks at size and shape of the heart
What is an electrocardiogram?
A record display of a persons heartbeat - visual representation of the heartbeat
