Approaches Flashcards
What is chaining?
A type of grading where the OT starts an activity and a patient finishes it- sense of accomplishment
What is grading?
Viewing an activity as a continuum that ranges from simple to complex- typically will become more challenging
What is forward chaining?
Client does as much as they can and therapist intervenes when necessary- sense of failure
What should be considered with adaptation and DBE?
How often it will be used, if the client truly wants and needs it, cost, and functionality in all environments
What is the create/promote approach?
Focuses on changing the environment or context engagement occurs- for example starting a yoga class- does not need to have a disability for this
Aids and devices may be involved with this approach to help promote health
What is the restore/establish approach?
Focus is on the environment and the person- bringing back a skill that was lost due to dx- establishing new skills and routines
What is the maintain approach?
Focus is on the person- more seen in chronic and degenerative diseases when functioning can’t be restored- has a lot to with education to be sure client knows how to maintain health
What is the modify/adapt approach?
Adapting the P E or the O- often seen with the restore approach- adapt something until the function is restored
What is the prevent approach?
Something that OTs always do but sometimes it’s more formal- also has a lot to with education on techniques to prevent further decline
