CRNM, they keep nurses in check to make sure they are administering and handling drugs properly
what does the hospital do reduce drug malpractice?
more restrictive than government control, being aware of the site’s policy on high-risk drugs

what are the types of topical medications?
- dermatologic

what are some examples of dermatologic medications?
ointments, cels, powers, sprays, creams
ex: hydrocortisone cream
what are transdermal medications?
patches, administered via multi layered film containing the drug and an adhesive layer
what are opthalmic meds?
medication administered into the eyes, typically liquid, gel, or ointment
what are otic meds?
these include instillations or irrigation or the external auditory canal
what are nasal meds?
nose medications, a very easy way to administer meds to patients that dont corporate, or have a decreased LOC
what factors do you need to be aware of when administering meds to kids?
- immature liver and kidneys (neonatals)
- immature blood-brain barrier (meds can cross to the brain easier)
- less weight
- thinner epidermal layer
- drug ordering is weight based
