- competent iliocecal valve prevents reflux
- risk of perforation instead

- reflux of contents - vomitting

Conservative Mx of bowel obstruction?
A
‘Drip and suck’
- nil by mouth
- IV fluids
- NG tube to aspirate stomach contents

Surgical Mx
A
indicated to treat underlying cause;
- adhesiolysis to treat adhesions
- repair hernia
- strangulation - surgery within 1 hour
