Mechanical Ventilation Flashcards
What is the definition of Total Lung Capacity?
Volume of air that the lungs can hold with maximal inspiration. 5500-6000ml
What is the definition of Tidal Volume?
Volume of air moved into and out of the lungs with each normal breath. 7ml/kg
What is the definition of Inspiratory Reserve Volume?
Volume of air that can be maximally inspired above a normal inspiration. 3 liters
What is the definition of Expiratory Reserve Volume?
Volume of air that can be macimally exhaled after a normal expiration. 1 liter
What is the definition of Vital Capacity?
The amount of air forced out of the lungs after a maximal respiration.4.6 -4.8 Liters
What is the definition of Residual Volume?
Volume of air remaining in the lungs after a maximal expiration. 1 Liter
What is the definition of Functional Residual Capacity?
Volume of air remaining in th elungs at the end of a normal expiration ( RV+ERV)
What is Anatomical Dead Space?
Volume of air that remains in the conductive region.
What is Minute Ventilation?
The amount of air expired per min.
What is Physiololgical Dead Space?
The anatomic dead space and the alveolar dead space.
What is Lung Compliance?
Measure of expandability.
What are 4 Extrinsic factor affecting lung compliance?
Kyphosocoliosis
Chest trauma
Obesity
Ventilator tubing
What are 5 Intrisic factors affecting lung compliance?
Atelectasis Pneumonia Pulmonary Edema Pulmonary Fibrosis ARDS
