Mechanical Circulatory Devices Flashcards
What is IABP?
Intra-aortic ballon pump
What is LVAD and RVAD?
Left Ventricular device
Right Ventricular Device
What is preload?
The amount of stretch on the ventricular myocardium prior to contraction.
What is AEDP?
Aortic end diastolic pressure
what is normal ejection fraction?
55-75%
What does 40 - 50% ejection fraction indicate?
damage to the myocardium
What does an ejection fractioln of <40% indicate?
heart failure
What is the most common circulatory device in the US?
IABP
Describe the location of IABP.
1-2 cm below the subclavian artery.
the balloon is positioned so that the tip is about 1 cm distal to the left subclavian artery.
How much helium is pumped into and out of the balloon ?
35-40cc
What the 5 goals of inflation?
increase coronary perfusion increase systemic perfusion pressure increase peripheral oxygen supply indirectly decrease SVR decrease heart rate
what are the 3 ways the timing can be triggered on a IABP?
R wave
arterial waveform
pacing spike
During what does the IABP need to be placed in pressure mode and not ekg mode?
cardiac arrest
what size syringe do you use if your IABP fails, and how often do you use it?
40-60 cc luer lock
once every 5-10 min
What is an indication for ECMO on an adult?
Hypoxemic respiration failure
