What is length?
Length is the distance between 2 points
What is the SI unit for length?
Meters
What instruments do we use to measure length?
Opisometre,trundle wheel,ruler,metre stick, veneer calipers
What are the units?
Millimetres (mm) Centimeters (cm) meters (m) kilometres (km)
What is the function of veneer calipers?
To measure the diameter of a circular object e.g. coin
What is the function of a trundle wheel?
To measure a long curved line
What is the function of a opisometer?
To measure the length of a curved line for a short distance e.g. road on a map
What does accuracy mean?
How close a measured value is to it’s actual value
What could lead to errors in a measurement result?
Parallax error and zero error
What does parllax error mean?
reading the measurement from incorrect angle
What is a zero error?
When you don’t start at zero on a measurement instrument

How do you calculate area?
Multiple length by width
How do you calculate the area of an irregular shape?
Trace the outline of the shape onto grid paper then count total boxes (each box is 1cm2, boxes less then have aren’t counted but over half is counted as 1cm2. Box half filled count as 0.5cm2
