Q

What is the function of the objective lens?

A

To magnify the specimen

17
Q

What are the parts of the animal cell?

A

Nucleus, mitochondria,cell membrane,cytoplasm,ribosome

18
Q

What is the function of a cell membrane?

A

Mostly made up of fat, protects the cell and allows substances in and out of the cell

19
Q

What is the function of the nucleus?

A

Carries genes, which control the activities of the cell

20
Q

What is the function of the cytoplasm?

A

A watery fluid of salts and food in which cells float

21
Q

What is the function of the mitochondria?

A

Where energy is released from food in respiration

22
Q

What is the function of the ribosome?

A

Makes protein (ie hormones enzymes

23
Q

What equipment do you need for a cheek cell experiment?

A

Microscope, sample…cheek cells,cotton bud, methylene blue,slide,cover slip

24
Q

What is the method for a cheek cell experiment?

A
  1. Use a clean lollipop stick to clean the inside of the cheek.
2.rub the stick gently across a clean glass slide. Allow the cells to dry onto the slide.
3.add 1 drop of methylene blue stain to the cheek cells.
  2. Tilt the slide so that the stain covers the cheek cell
6.place a cover slip onto the slide at a 45 degree angle and lower gently to avoid air bubbles
25
Q

How do you calculate the magnification caused by a light microscope?

A

Multiply the eyepiece magnification by the objective lens magnification
