Measurement Tools (3) Flashcards
Calibration Blocks
Blocks whose dimensions trace back to the nationally held standard. Used to Calibrate measuring tools.
Gauge Blocks
Precision-sized metal blocks used to check the accuracy of a measuring tools reading.
Considerations when choosing a Measuring Tool:
- Geometric
- Quantity
- Desired, Accuracy, Precision, and Resolution
- Units
- How to properly use the tool
Calipers
- Vernier
- Dial
- Digital
- Measure thickness
Micrometers
Measure thickness
Dial Indicators
Measure depth
Surface Comparators
Measure roughness of a surface
Weld Profile Gauges
Used to check the shape of weld buildup.
- V-Wac
- Brim Cam
V-Wac Gauge
Measures:
- depths, grooves, pits
- height of protrusions
- porosity size (using porosity comparator)
Brim Cam Gauge
Everything that a V-Wac can do - Porosity
+ fillet welds, throat and length
+ bevel angles
+ planar alignment of welded joints
Weld Fillet Gauge
Used to determine if the leg and throat of Fillet welds are acceptable.
Datum
A landmark on an object used to help refer to the location of a defect.
