Mckenzie Flashcards
What are the 3 syndromes identified by McKenzie ?
Postural, dysfunctional, derangement
Postural syndrome =?
End range stress of normal structures
Dysfunction syndrome =?
End rage stress of shortened structures
Derangement syndrome =?
Anatomical disruption or displacement within the motion segment
In postural syndrome when is pain seen?
Only at end range (end range loading)
Where is postural syndrome MC?
Lower clerical and lumbar flexion
What do you see in dysfunction syndrome?
Decreased ROM, pain at end of ROM, normal load on shortened tissues leads to symptoms
What is centralization ?
PROCESS- distal symptoms abolished in distal to prox
What is centralizing ?
DURING the application of the loading strategy dismal symptoms are being abolished!
What is centralized ?
AFTER the application of the loading all the distal systems have been abolished and only back pain remains
When do you see centralization ?
Only in derangement syndrome
What are some characteristics of centralization ?
Only in derangement, usually rapid and always lasting change, reliably assess, occurs in response to loading strategies
What is the treatment for derangement syndrome ?
Loading
What is seen in posterior derangement ?
Kyphotic lean (antalgia)
What is seen in anterior derangement ?
Lordotic lean
