McGuffin Flashcards
Results from early division of metanephric blastema
Bifid (double) ureter
2 renal pelvises emanate from renal hilum and immediately fuse to form one ureter
Double pelvis
Ureter enters seminal vesicle, prostatic urethra, or vagina instead of bladder. Presents with incontinence
Ectopic ureteric orifice
Abnormally enlarged ureter
Megaloureter
Ureter traverses behind IVC
Postcaval ureter
Obstructing membrane in posterior male urethra as a result of abnormal in-Utero development
Posterior urethral valves
Common cause of bladder outlet obstruction in male newborns, can be severe enough to cause lung hypoplasia and respiratory failure
Posterior urethral valves
Area between kidney and ureter is last segment of fetal ureter to canalizations. Most common site of obstruction. Presents prenatally as hydronephrosis. Evaluate with ultrasound
Uteteropelvic junction obstruction
Two distinct ureters arising from the kidney. They either fuse along their course or inser in tot he bladder at 2 different points
Bifid (double) uretere
