MCAT Repository Flashcards
5.5 L
Amount of blood in adult? (volume)
Cardiac Output=C.O.=(stroke volume)(Heart Rate)
Cardiac Output Equation?
Jan. 23, 2011
coldest day in January
Galvanic cell has negative G.Electrolytic cell has positive G, requires voltage to run.ALSO, think electroLYSIS, breaking up, making pure products (like H2)
Difference between Galvanic Cell and Electrolytic cell?
No! It does not have that H on the end.
Does an atom with R-O(-) count as protic?
w=nFe where n=# electrons, F=Faraday’s constant, e=electromotive force (V, voltage)
Equation for amount of work performed in electrolytric cell?
vRMS=sqrrt(3RT/m)
Equation for Root Mean Square Velocity Gas
unsaturation=2(#C)+2-(#H) Extended= 2(#C)+N-(#H)-(#X) Nitrogen makes 3 bonds, which is 1 less than the required.Halogens make one bond, which is one less than the required amount. It’s the total # of intended bonds - the total # of actual bond making things
Formula for Unsaturation
Stick the object in water, and see what % of it is submerged.
How can you tell the density of an object in comparison to water?
take the average of pKa of conjugate acid of weak base, and average with pH of titrant acid.
How do you approximate the pH at equivalence for a weak base titrated by strong acid?
Take the average of pKa1 and pKa2.
How do you find the equivalence pH of first proton of diprotic acid?
=3/2RT
Kinetic Energy of Gas
Zikes! Martian is a Big Giant Nerd!
Mnemonic for embryology stages?
just curious, does anyone have a mneomic or easy way to remember what the meso, ecto, and endo -derms develop into? Kaplan’s is pretty good: Endoderm: Think Endernal (internal) lining/layer - Organs: Digestive and Respiratory tract, liver, thyroid, pancreas, and bladder. Mesoderm: Think “Means-O-Derm” (i.e., means of getting around) : Musculoskeletal, circulatory, excretory, and reproductive. Ectoderm: Think “Attract-O-Derm” (things that make you attractive): Eyes, epidermis, inner ears (good listener), nervous system (smarts).
Mnemonic for what tissue is derived from what fundamental layer?
Q=DelP[(piR^4)/(8nL)]
Poiseulle’s Law
Mitral Valve
Valve into left Atria
22.4 L Think two rows of 10 1.0 L bottles, with 2.4 extra
Volume of 1 mol ideal gas at STP
Peptide bond, N-C=0 Be very weary of a hydrolysis of glutamine or aspartamine, it will yield glutamate and aspartate
What bond does a hydrolysis affect
it does NOT depend on # of electrons that have passed, depends on more intrinsic factors.
What does the EMF of a redox reaction depend on?
Vena Cava (think of a cave where you are throwing blue blood into, somewhere in Argentina)
What is blood vessel returning veins to right atria?
it is the average of the pKa’s that end up giving the molecule a 0 charge, with one + atom and one - atom.Always has to be the zwitterion form.
What is the pI, in simple relativistic terms?
Amount of blood leaving veins and entering arteries
What is Venous return?
Endothelial cells
What type of cells line blood vessels?
Peptide hormone, just like other hormones of the hypothalamus and pituitary glands.
What type of hormone is oxytocin?
