What are the Roles of Classification Societies…
- Develop technical standards for construction, equipment & systems
- Survey ships to ensure meet standards
- Survey ships on behalf of flag states of statutory certificates
- Give Conditions of Class to allow vessels time to rectify survey findings
What is a “Condition of Class?”
Either measures or repairs that need to be implemented or completed within a time period for a vessel to keep their Class
