Inferior end of semilunar hiatus
What is blood supply of maxillary sinus?
Posterior superior alveolar artery, infraorbital artery, descending palatine artery
What is the nerve supply of mucous membrane of maxillary sinus?
Middle super alveolar nerve

- DPT
- PA and occlusal
- Posterior-anterior skull
- Occipito-mental skull (Waters view)

Clinical signs of maxillary sinus disease
- Redness of mucosa in upper sulcus or face
- Swelling in face
- Nasal discharge
- Pain on palpation of lateral surface of maxilla
- Pain on percussion of maxillary teeth
What does maxillary sinusitis cause?
Hyperplasia and hypertrophy of sinus, blocking ostium
Symptoms of acute maxillary sinusitis?
- Headache, nasal obstruction, purulent nasal discharge, malaise, fever
- Dull, heavy, throbbing pain teeth
- Last 10 days
Bacteria that cause maxillary sinusitits?
Staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus pneumonia, haemophilus influenza, escheria coli
What is odontogenic sinusitis caused by?
Periapical infection or periodontal infection
Which bacteria cause odontogenic sinusitis?
Anaerobic bacteria; Bacteroides, enterobacteria, porphyromonas, prevotella
Treatment of Non-Odontogenic Sinusitis?
Antibiotics: Amoxicillin, amoxiclav, azithromycin, ceftriaxone
Nasal decongestant + Analgesic for pain and fever
What is the treatment of odontogenic sinusitis?
Antibiotics: Amoxicillin, amoxiclav, azithromycin, ceftriaxone
Nasal decongestant + Analgesic for pain and fever+ Metronidazole
What is the treatment of chronic sinusitis?
Antral washout
