Maxillary Lateral Incisor Flashcards
From facial & lingual views, generally, what is the crown shape of the maxillary lateral incisors? Due to its great variation what are alternative shapes?
Trapezoid is the most common shape.
Oval and Elliptical shapes are also seen. Lateral incisors are usually more round than Central Incisors.
From facial & lingual views, what is the mesial outline shape of the maxillary lateral incisors? How does it compare to the distal outline?
Convex with rounded MI angle.
Less round than distal outline.
From facial & lingual views, what is the distal outline shape of the maxillary lateral incisors? How does it compare to the mesial outline?
More rounded than mesial outline; rounded DI angle.
Eruption of maxillary lateral incisors?
8-9 years
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is longer, the incisocervical crown dimension or the mesiodistal dimension?
Incisocervical (top to bottom) is longer
In maxillary lateral incisors, root tips bend (dilacerate), in which direction?
Distal
The incisal edge of the maxillary lateral incisor curves in which direction?
The incisal edge slants gingivally (down) in the distal 1/3
In maxillary lateral incisors, how many mammelons (bumps on incisal edge) are present upon eruption?
Two. Central incisors have 3.
What is the height of contour (contact location) of the mesial edge of the maxillary lateral incisors?
The junction of the incisal, and middle 1/3
What is the height of contour (contact location) of the distal edge of the maxillary lateral incisors?
Middle 1/3
For maxillary lateral incisors which edge, distal or mesial, is more rounded?
The Distal outline of the crown is more rounded than the mesial. The distoincisal corner is lower and more round than the mesioincisal corner.
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the root shape? How many?
Single conical root
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the crown shape from the mesial view?
Wege or triangular.
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the facial outline shape from the mesial view?
Convex (moderately); flatter than central incisor
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the facial (buccal) height of contour?
cervical (lower) 1/3
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the lingual height of contour?
Cervical 1/3
In maxillary lateral incisors, the lingual outline shape is?
Concave middle and incisal 1/3s (lingual fossa) & convex cervical 1/3
In maxillary lateral incisors, what structure contributes to the possibility of class I caries?
the lingual pit at the incisal edge of the cingulum.
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the centered, convex structure on the lingual surface just cervical to the lingual fossa?
The cingulum.
Which tooth has a more defined and deeper lingual fossa, the central or lateral maxillary incisors?
Lateral maxillary incisors
In maxillary lateral incisors, does the distal or mesial side have more incisal curvature of the CEJ?
The mesial CEJ has more incisal curvature
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the tooth shape from the incisal view?
Triangular, with a longer, rounded (convex) facial side and a tapered/rounded (convex) cingulum on the lingual side.
In maxillary lateral incisors, where is the contact location buccolingually?
It is centered both mesial and distally
How does the root length compare b/t lateral and central maxillary incisors?
They are about the same length
In maxillary lateral incisors, what is the shape, in cross section, of the root and pulp chamber?
Triangular.
In maxillary lateral incisors, how many lobes are present?
4; 3 facial and 1 lingual. Same as central incisor.
Which tooth has the greatest variation in tooth morphology?
Lateral maxillary incisors; Variations in the crown shape (roundness), cingulum (linguogingival fissure may descend from lingual pit through cingulum), and presence (often congenitally missing or seen as peg).
