1
Q

Q

For mandibular canines, what are the number of cusps? How does the middle facial lobe compare to that of the maxillary canine? How does the cingulum of the mandibular canine compare to that of the maxillary canine?

A

4 cusps. The middle facial lobe is less prominent on the mandibular canine. The cingulum (4th lobe) is also smaller in the mandibular canines.

Q

How does the incisocervical distance of the mandibular canine crown compare to the incisocervical distance of the maxillary canine crown? How about root length?

A

The mandibular canine has a longer incisocervical crown length and a slightly shorter root length. The canines are the longest teeth in the mouth.

Q

For mandibular canines, how do the appearances of the mesial and distal outlines compare from the facial/lingual view?

A

Mesial outline: Convex. Mesial cusp ridge meets the mesial surface at a rounded edge (less round than D surface).
Distal outline: More convex than mesial, but may have slight concavity in cervical 1/3 of tooth. Distal cusp ridge twice as long as mesial cusp ridge. Very rounded DI corner.

Q

For mandibular canines, what are the heights of contour (occlusogingival contact points) for the mesial and distal faces?

A

Mesial: Incisal 1/3
Distal: Incisal 1/3; just below the mesial contact

Q

For mandibular canines, how do the facial and lingual outlines compare from a proximal view?

A

Facial Outline: only slightly convex, mostly in cervical 1/3. Wears facets in incisal 1/3.
Lingual Outline: Convex cervical 1/3 (cingulum)
Concave middle and incisal 1/3s (lingual fossa)

Q

For mandibular canines, what are the heights of contour of the facial and lingual faces?

A

Both cervical 1/3. Facial height of contour is more incisal than mandibular incisors, however.

Q

For mandibular canines, how do the facial and lingual outlines appear from an incisal/occlusal view?

A

Facial outline: Convex. Facial middle lobe NOT prevalent as it is in maxillary canine. Distal side may appear flat or notched.
Lingual outline: Convex (cingulum)

Q

For mandibular canines, how many mandibular canine roots are found?

A

1

17
Q

In what tooth do we find bifurcation at the root apex?

A

Mandibular canine root

18
Q

Describe the mandibular canine root. 5 physical features.

A

Conical shaped. Broad B-L. Tapers to rounded apex. Dilacerates to mesial or distal, usually distal. Triangular shape in cross section.

19
Q

For mandibular canine roots, how many pulp canals are present? What is the pulp chamber shape in cross section?

A

1 pulp canal generally, 2 if root is bifurcated. Pulp chamber appears oval or figure eight in cross section.

20
Q

For mandibular canines, are mammelons present on incisal edge?

A

No
