Maxillary Central Incisors Flashcards
For maxillary central incisors, what is the expected time of eruption?
7-8 years
For maxillary central incisors, what is the mesial outline shape from the facial view? Distal outline?
Mesial=Straight with sharp MI angle
Distal=More rounded with rounded DI edge
For maxillary central incisors, how many lobes are there?
- 3 facial and 1 palatal (lingual)
What is the crown shape from the facial view for the maxillary central incisors?
Rectangular, square, imperfect square (b/c of the rounded DI edge), and trapezoid.
What are the two developmental grooves on the facial surface of maxillary central incisors?
Labial grooves
The incisal borders of the three maxillary central incisors are called what?
Mamelons
What is the non-incisal lobe of the maxillary central incisors called?
Cingulum
What anterior tooth is wider mesio-distally than any other?
maxillary central incisors
For maxillary central incisors, what are the heights of contour (contact locations) for the mesial and distal edges?
Mesial: Incisal 1/3
Distal: Junction of middle and incisal 1/3
For maxillary central incisors, what is the root shape? What is the cross section shape?
Root is cone shape. When cross sectioned, root and pulp chamber appear triangular.
For maxillary central incisors, what is the crown shape from the mesial view?
Triangular or wedge shaped.
For maxillary central incisors, describe the facial and lingual outlines from the mesial/distal view?
Facial outline: Convex in cervical and middle 1/3s, flat in the incisal 1/3
Lingual outline: Convex cervical 1/3 (cingulum), Concave middle and incisal 1/3s
For maxillary central incisors, what are the cervical heights of contour for the buccal (facial) and lingual sides?
Cervical 1/3 for the facial and lingual sides.
What tooth has the greatest CEJ curvature incisally?
maxillary central incisors
How does the lingual fossa of the central maxillary incisors compare to the lingual fossa of the lateral maxillary incisors?
The CMI’s lingual fossa is not as deep or defined.
For maxillary central incisors, what are the shapes of the mesial and distal marginal ridges?
Mesial marginal ridge is straight
Distal marginal ridge is curved (causes height of contour to be slightly lower than mesial side, at junction of middle and incisal 1/3)
For maxillary central incisors, what is the shape from the incisal view?
Roughly triangular with the facial side being wider and the lingual side tapering at the cingulum. The incisal edge is slightly curved towards the facial side.
For maxillary central incisors, in what direction does the crown taper?
lingually
For maxillary central incisors, what is the contact location buccolingually?
Centered both mesially and distally.
What tooth has the steepest CEJ curvature on the mesial side than any other?
maxillary central incisors
For maxillary central incisors, are they longer I-G or M-D?
Slightly longer I-G, but remember, MCIs have the widest M-D faces of all anterior teeth and are sometimes considered square shaped.
