Distance formula : d= the square root of (x1-x2) squared + (y1-y2) squared
This is used to find the distance between two points on a rectangular coordinate system when solved simplify the root answer at the end
Midpoint formula ( x1+x2)/2 , (y1+y2)/2
This is used to find the middle point between two points
First you solve the top of the fractions then divide by two or simplify the fractions that will give you the midpoint
X - intercept
When the line crosses the x axis on the graph
Y - intercept
Where the line crosses the y axis on the graph
Slope formula: y2-y1/x2-x1
Slope is the rate of change between two points
The y’s are the change of height and ten x’s are the change of length
Standard form: Ax+ By=C
This is used when you want to determine the y and x intercepts
Slope intercept form: y = Mx + b
This is the easiest way to determine the slope of a line
M= slope
B= y intercept
Point slope form: (y-y1)=m(x-x1)
This is used when you want to determine an equation of the line when you are only given the slope and a point of the line
What is different about the perpendicular slop?
It used the negative reciprocal of the original slope
What is the slope when the line is vertical and only intercepts the x axis
Undefined
