What is maternal collapse?
Severe respiratory or cardiocirculatory distress that may lead to a sudden change in level of consciousness or cardiac arrest if untreated.
What are the 6 H’s?
Head, Heart, Hypoxia, Haemorrhage, WHOLE body/hazards
What triggers an emergency response?
Airway - Obstructed and noisy
Breathing- Resp rate < 5
Circulation - Pulse < 40 or >140 bpm, Systolic BP <80 or >180 mmHg
Unconsciousness/seizure
Airway & action?
turn patient onto back, jaw thrust, head tilt
Breathing & action?
Oxygen 15L/min, spO2 monitoring
Circulation & action?
LL, displace uterus, elevate legs, IV access - bloods (FBC, GS, UE, ABG, lactate), fluid bolus 200-500ml, urine output
Disability & action?
glucose, anaesthetic rv, MgSO4
