Rolling: supine to side, supine to prone, perform on mat and progress to bed

- Use UE arm swing to gain momentum: cuff weights on wrists if needed
- Cross ankles or flexing LE to assist hook-lye
- Pillows to prop in side-lying to go to prone for added support/comfort

Prone-on-elbows
A
- Shift weight side to side to assist with elbow placement
- Cautions with thoracic and lumbar lesions
- Used to strengthen serratus anterior and other scapular mm’s
- From prone to elbows, progress to prone to supine

Prone on hands
A
(Paraplegia only)
- Develops hyperextension of hips and lower back necessary for swing through gait or standing with B KAFO’s if mm available
- Need strong pectorals and deltoids
- Activities: Weight shifts, scapular depression and push ups

Supine on elbows:
A
- To assist with bed mobility; to prepare for long sitting
- C6 and above probably will need assistance
- Start with pts’s hands under buttocks or in pockets or belt loops (if able) to use reverse action of biceps up on elbows
- Use side to side movement (refer to lab)

Long sitting
A
(must have proper SLR lengthening)
-Start from supine on elbows
-Shift weight to one side
-Throw free arm backward into extension and external rotation
~ fingers remain in flexed position to avoid over stretching
-Shift weight onto extended arm and throw other arm into extension and external rotation above without triceps
