Mass movement Flashcards
What are the 4 types of mass movement?
Rockfall, Slumping, landslide, mudslide
What is, and how does rockfall occur?
involves individual fragments or chunks of rock falling off a cliff face, often resulting from freeze-thaw weathering.
What is and how do landslides occur?
involves blocks of rock sliding rapidly downslope along a linear shear-plane, usually lubricated by water.
What is and how does mudflow occur?
The type of mass movement that involves saturated material flowing downhill, which may involve elements of sliding and slumping
What is and how does slumping/rotational slip occur?
The type of mass movement that involves the downhill movement of material along a curved surface lubricated by water.
